About Jessica

My educational philosophy is, “Improvise, adapt, overcome, have fun. Supporting and teaching success-based values, attitudes, responses, and problem solving to everyday challenges together.”

My focus is private tutoring students with an emphasis in STEM education including mathematics, science, test prep, and pre-k. I believe that it is one thing to be smart and knowledgeable in a subject matter. It is a whole other thing to be able to teach that subject matter in a simple and understandable manner and format.

I have a Master of Architecture degree from Texas Tech University and an Associate in Biological Science degree from Phoenix College. In Phoenix, Arizona, I practiced architecture for 6 years and worked for DLR Group as an associate and project architect prior to becoming an educator. I was a lead instructor and taught post-secondary drafting and design and computer-aided drafting at ITT Technical Institute. I also spent a year teaching and coaching elementary age chess players for Chess Emporium. My civic involvement has included my work over a nine year span as a Phoenix Environmental Quality and Sustainability Commissioner.

I am an AZDE certified substitute teacher, passed the Arizona Educator Secondary Mathematics Exam, and taught K-12 for two years. I have private tutored elementary, secondary, and post-secondary science, mathematics, and test prep. I have also tutored most of the major subjects, as well as, home-schooled and pre-kinder students.

I moved to Nebraska in August 2022 to pursue a graduate degree in Public Health and Biostatistics at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. I quickly discovered I really enjoy living in Bellevue and Nebraska. Nebraska has been good for my heart and soul, so I decided to make Nebraska my new home and build community hereMy hobbies include spending time with family and friends, day trips hiking, playing board games, tinkering on things like automobiles, and playing the mandolin.

Student Reviews

Ms. Jessica is an excellent tutor. She knows how to modify her teaching strategies according to the particular student. She was able to tutor my 4 year old daughter and fully prepared her for kindergarten. Ms. Jessica worked on developing my daughter’s critical thinking skills, and has helped her with problem solving skills in addition to core knowledge. Ms. Jessica has a lot of patience and she is very persistent, my daughter was not an easy going student, and Ms. Jessica was able to work through her tantrums and get her back on task. Ms. Jessica’s knowledge, enthusiasm, and her desire to share with her students makes her the perfect tutor for students of any age. -Africa

Jessica is by far the best tutor I have ever had! She helped me in math and chemistry. She was always there for me whether it was answering a last minute question or pushing me to fully understand a concept. I definitely wouldn't be where I am now without her. -Connor

Five years ago I attended Arizona State and had the pleasure of having Jessica as a tutor. Jessica always provided a fun and enjoyable learning environment for me and I always looked forward to our meetings! She was always willing to work at my pace of learning and made me feel comfortable to ask any questions. Jessica is an incredible and brilliant human being and I would recommend her as a tutor to anyone! -Breanna

Upon my return to schooling as a student after almost 20 years since being in that situation, I had a few issues that I needed to work through in a class room setting. It is without a doubt that the personal attention and instruction that I received from Jessica is directly tied to the success that I had while in college. Her level of patience is unparalleled and the desire to see her students succeed is unmatched. Look no further than her to reach the goals that you have in mind. Your desire to be successful will become her ultimate focus. -Salvador

Jessica has been an amazing influence for our son from day one. He had a previous tutor, but when he met Jessica he only wanted to commit to their tutoring sessions. She was able to understand his needs and adapt to how he would excel within a few sessions. They have built a great relationship. She can see when he is slacking and when he can be pushed.  Her background in academics has given her the gift to understand teaching styles capitalizing on progress and results.  Although she primarily tutors my son for math, she willingly helps to advise in any other areas where he may struggle. She is always available and is very flexible with her time. I have seen positive results in his grades since Jessica started working with my son. Jessica has been a very positive influence on my sons academic confidence allowing for improvement in grades and participation.  We were extremely lucky to have found Jessica to not only tutor our son but to also be an advisor in his academic path towards excellence. -Shelly
